MAKE YOU PAINTINGS AND FRAMES LOOK LIKE NEW

THE RESTORATION PROCESS

The LM FRAME & GALLERY conservators (Tim for frames, Camille for paintings) always work towards their restoration work towards respecting the original intent of the artist.

Although timeless. each work of art can show signs of distress over time, mostly due to age and other environmental factors. Usual damages include paint losses and flaking paint, canvas tears, discolored varnish, degradation of previous restoration campaigns, and accumulation of layers of grime and dust.

Equally important to treating the paint layer is paying meticulous attention to the support on which it was applied. The support, or the structure of a painting, includes canvas, panel, board, and stretchers or strainers. Our work restores all material aspects of paintings using conservation-grade solvents, adhesives, and paints for the treatment of each individual work.

CONSULTATION

We start with an analysis of the work needed to restore each work of art to its original look and feel. We estimate the hours needed and price the restoration process accordingly.

Given the many uncertainties around restoring art, we may encounter areas that needs additional work. As a result, we reserve the right to update our cost estimates, always in respect of our client's budget.

TESTING and APPROVAL

After the initial consultation, your piece is tested and examined in our laboratory. The conservators will then provide a formal condition report and treatment proposal. The treatment proposal will outline the methods and materials that will be used, pricing information, and estimated treatment time.

Once you have received the treatment proposal, we will contact you to review the available treatment options and find the best fit for your needs.

To ensure thorough examination and testing, please allow up to 2-3 business days for the assessment.

Once you are happy to proceed with treatment, we will email you an authorization form. Written authorization and a 50% deposit are required to begin treatment.

BEFORE AND AFTER

The impact of restoration can be added brightness and more apparent details that were previously hiding behind old varnish and dust. See below for Before and After rendering on a 1700s 48x36 painting we recently cleaned.
